Ready to Go Beyond Schooling?

Who we are

We are parents concerned about our children’s future. We are concern that the education process that is provided does not meet the needs of our children and that education continues to be politicised. We are also concern that our children’s core values may be lost. Above all, we are concern that out our children’s true potential are not achieved. We believe, that education should be liberated and lead to liberation of our minds – discover ourselves and to cultivate the potential in us all. It is the acknowledgment that each of us are special in our own ways. In this site, we share our thoughts and experiences on education and learning as we take pro-active steps to shoulder responsibilities for our children.

We strongly believe this has to begin from our hearts with compassion and (hopefully, to some extent), wisdom. We are compelled to share our experiences to help parents educate their children. We strongly believe that in any education environment, it has to be children first and that they deserve all the respect and encouragement any individual need. We need to help them bring out their true potentials.

We are not here to ask you to be homeschoolers. If you do, that is your choice or you see the need to. Our world is changing, the entire value system of knowledge and insight is rapidly evolving. We ask you to open your minds and hearts to our children, their environment, ther future.

We need to evolve as well and create alternatives from the ground-up, from us parents. If you even begin by rethinking schools and learning – we are happy. This is our aim, the rest is up to you.

This website is our learning experiences beyond schooling.

Are you really sure you want to homeschool? DO you really want to?

So where do we start?

We start from within our hearts by opening ourselves to different ways of looking at learning, different ways of doing learning, and different ways of experiencing learning. For learning needs to be organic, natural and whole, as opposed to tainted, artificial and disjointed.

We start by respecting children as who they are and not what they ought to be. We start by opening up our eyes to see their unique potentials and gently, lovingly nurture them to fruition. We start by throwing out our old beliefs that children are empty vessels that need filling up. Rather, we must value them and skillfully bring forth their gifts and potentials according to a pace comfortable for them

.

Start from your home, your beautiful home with plasma tv, fancy furniture and expensive decorative items, perhaps. But has it got a library where books line the shelves for your children to read and enjoy? Has it got a proper study area where children can do their work with focus and concentration? Has it got a world map hung on the wall for children to learn about the world? Does music pervade the rooms so that everyone can enjoy and have their spirits uplifted? Has it got a prayer room where the whole family prays together?

ON Curriculum…

Instead of jumping into buying curriculum, I would recommend that parents buy books written by homeschooling advocates like John Holt, Linda Dobson, Henry Albert, etc and infuse oneself with the true spirit of home-education. Check out some of the links on the right of this page.

more importantly, ask and consult your children – they are the most important ‘stakeholders’

Remember Homeschooling is not about changing schools. Homeschooling is about changing hearts.

When our hearts are ready, we will know where to seek for answers. Start from within and you shall not be lost.

What next?

If you have question on homeschooling, be sure you read the Homeschooling FAQ (Ver3) and the articles in this blog to have a better understanding and more meaningful discussions (we know, this faq needs some updating – that’s on the way)
