Who we are
We are parents concerned about our children’s future. We are concern that the education process that is provided does not meet the needs of our children and that education continues to be politicised. We are also concern that our children’s core values may be lost. Above all, we are concern that out our children’s true potential are not achieved.
We believe, that education should be about and lead to liberation of our minds – discover ourselves and to cultivate the potential in us all. It is the acknowledgement that each of us are special in our own ways.
In this site, we share our thoughts and experiences on education and learning as we take pro-active steps to shoulder responsibilities for our children. We strongly believe this has to begin from our hearts with compassion and (hopefully, to some extent), wisdom.
Our aim is that your thoughts are stirred and begin (if you have not yet done so) to think about differently about education and learning – beyond schooling.
We do not advocate that you must homeschool – this is a personal choice and a responsibility. We are compelled to share our experiences to help parents educate their children. We strongly believe that in any education environment, it has to be children first and that they deserve all the respect and encouragement any individual need. We need to help them bring out their true potentials.
We are inclined to provide support alternative children first approaches education. We also hope to share our perspectives of homeschooling with you and if you feel this is the right method of education for you and your children, encourage and support you. We support and encourage community-based initiatives.
This website is our learning experiences beyond schooling.
Who we are not
We are not a business and do not run any center. We do not think homeschooling parents should just “outsource” education and take a step backwards to let other people manage. We are not on any recruiting exercise. We are also not a profit center although we may charge for events where necessary. All programs have sliding scale (where required) to help as may people as possible to participate.
If homeschooling is for you
If you have question on homeschooling, be sure you read the Homeschooling FAQVer3 and the articles in this blog to have a better understanding and more meaningful discussions.

IF YOU ARE ALREADY HOMESCHOOLING – Join Malaysian Home Educators Network (MALHEN)
is an informal network to bring Malaysian home educators was created after the dialogue session. It is platform for parents to exchange ideas and share experiences. Most important of all, to provide support and encouragement to help on another as we embark to educate our children at home. To join this network you must already be homeschooling, please complete an information form, please click here .
A remark on homeschooling centers
We do not recognize homeschooling centers as “homeschooling”. Homeschooling is not about outsourcing teaching to someone else – it is about parents taking charge and the child leading the way. We prefer to call them independent learning centers and recognize them as another form of alternative education. We are, not experts in that methods of teaching.
If homeschooling is NOT for you
It is fine. Homeschooling, as we mentioned, is a personal choice. We are not saying homeschooling is the only way. While we have made the personal decision to homeschool and to live on the “parallel universe” as it were, you need to find your own balance and approach to your children’s education process. We strongly believe that:
- We are experiencing a revolutionary period where learning, knowledge teaching has is changing right in front of our eyes brought about by technology and globalization. We need to move in tandem with this change, if possible, ahead of the curve – not washed away by it’s tide.
- The way child learn and the education needs to change, we have kept the schooling methods for over 100 years. While the world has changed schooling has fundamentally not changed.
- We need to recognize that every child has his or her own potential and own unique style of learning. They need to be recognized and be respected as individual in their own right – hence, the one size fit all school system cannot work totally.
Therefore, we strongly believe parents needs to play a much more larger and proactive role in our children’s education and learning process – in whatever form.
Happy journey!

Hi. Would like to know if you have any network here in Sabah. Am a single mom with a son who has ADHD and a daughter. FYI, My kids are homeschooled currently with my sister but i think that she can’t cope with it anymore. If I could have it my way, I’d love to resign and stay at home to teach. However, I could not afford to as I’m the sole breadwinner for my household. Require urgent assistance from you on this. Appreciate the help. Thanks again.

Always cannot finish his work in time and problem in writing and reading. Always be the last in the class and classmate will laugh at him.
I would like to know whether is there any center or schools in Subang or Klang area which is running some kind of program which can help up my son.
Thank you
Cally
Hi Cally,
If you are looking for remedial classes for him to stay in school – there is a “school” located in USJ 4 operated by the dyslexia association. However, bear in mind it is not an alternative approach but rather, “help” get your kid back to mainstream education system. If you would like to explore homeschool as an option, do read on this website and drop us an email, beyond.schooling@gmail.com

My daughter is currently studying at a homeschool centre using a Christian curriculum. I’d like to teach her by myself now. Do you happen to know any acredited secular (non-biblical) homeschool program suitable for slow learners? She is 14 now and in Grade 6.
