We are re-reading this book again.
I think this is a good book to give you a big picture of the education today. Parents need to rethink and understand education completely.

Learning Beyond Schooling 
A lot of parents are still looking at the micro aspects of 20th Century education without realizing that the practices and problems we see are deliberate and embedded from the beginning.
Parents think the problem are the teachers, the ministry, the textbooks, the tuition, the exams….they cannot see the real problem is in the IDEA of a mechanical, state-controlled machinery influenced by business. People believe everything told to them and ignore cognitive dissonance.
Education must be free from the influence of State, Church (including all institutionalized religion) and Business.

This is such a great book. After going thru the review, we purchased it online. My husband was the first to finish the book. It gave a true macro perspective of education, led us to understand what is homeschooling – previously we alwiz thot that buying an imported curriculum or sending kids to a centre is homeschooling. We believe in the importance of community, but didnt see the extent of it until this book.
