Q & A on Homeschooling (6): Trust Yourself, Your children.

Here a question we received last week. If you have a question click here.

We received this question from Zohrah:

Q: I want to know everything and anything about homeschool. How do I start for my 7 yr old son. Do I have to inform the Education Ministry? Please give me a contact number so I can speak to someone. TQ

A: Homeschooling is NOT illegal in Malaysia, but if you try to apply for it, you will be disappointed. So what do parents do if they want to homeschool? Well, from what we know, they adopt the tagline of a famous sports brand: JUST DO IT!

Because the schooling system is going from a leaking pit to a bottomless one. And our children cannot afford to wait to be saved. So we parents have got to jump in to save our own kids. There are many conflicting instruction and criteria on how homeschooling can be conducted. In one case, we were told that we cannot do that unless we are certified teachers.  But there are thousands of certified teachers out there but are they truly qualified?

Trust your kids that they will learn in their own ways and at their own time.

Trust your instincts because they are usually right. You are more than qualified to guide your child at home – because you have your child’s best welfare at heart.

Here’s a quote to share on homeschooling:

Homeschooling and public schooling are as opposite as two sides of a coin. In a homeschooling environment, the teacher need not be certified, but the child MUST learn. In a public school environment, the teacher MUST be certified, but the child need NOT learn (Gene Royer)
