Any loss of life is sad, especially so when young lives are lost because of the pressure from examinations and the need to achieve high scores. In Singapore last year, there were 27 suicides among 10- to 19-year-olds – a 15-year high. This was double the 2014 figure, despite a drop in the overall number of suicides. In Malaysia, Students commit suicide due to unreasonably high expectations, says psychologist. The results were several teenage suicides in the past 2 years. This perhaps the same in most Asian countries.
Every time when young lives are lost, we point our fingers to the system as in the article above. Guess what, the current schooling system actually define a student by his or her grades.
